FASHION, FADS AND CRAZES

Fashion, fads, and crazes are considered as short-lived or temporary social norms. Even if they may have a big impact at a certain period of time, they usually last for a short time only.

Fashion are the mainstream styles, patterns, look, brands, material, etc. that are usually worn by a lot of people at a given period of time. Basically, it is the taste of people in terms of clothing and what the clothing trends are. In the image below, fashion examples include combinations of folded jeans, tucked-in polos, desinger socks, and white shoes that aren't common 5-10 years ago.

Fads are mainstream objects, ideas or beliefs. It is a shared excitement of a social group or a society towards something. Compared to crazes, they usually last longer since the level of attachment is lesser. An example of a fad is the new iPhone 7. People tend to buy the latest smartphones these days, making the new iPhone 7 included in the list regular fads of smartphones especially for smartphone lovers.

Crazes on the other hand are the objects or activities that people go crazy for. Most of the time, crazes appear all of a sudden. For example, dance crazes like the Nae-nae and the twerk or celebrity crazes like the AlDub phenomenon. An example of a craze is the Star Wars craze that occured last year due to the reinstallment of the Star Wars film, namely "The Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens" film. An image depicting the craze featuring me and my siblings is shown below.
